Felony Murder Doctrine
Dickens v. State , 2005 OK CR 4 (February 4, 2005):  The felony-murder doctrine is taken to its absurd extreme in this case.  Two guys rob a McDonald's in Tulsa, cops are called while it is in progress and are waiting for them when they exit.  Both take off running in an open field. Dogs are set loose.  As the dogs close in, one guy fires at them, cops return fire and kill him.  Other perp, the hapless Mr. Dickens, drops to the ground and gives up when the shooting starts. The felony-murder conviction sticks because the death of a person happened during the commission of the armed robbery–even though it was the death of an accomplice who was shot and killed by the cops.  Absurd, but now the law.
